Amenti/amenti.jpg

Label Profile: Amenti Music (US)

With it’s second release just hitting the streets, San Francisco based label, Amenti Music is proving to live up to it’s commitment to combine Chicago flair with deep San Francisco sensibilities. This comes as no surprise to many who know label founder, Olivier Desmet, since his days with Afterhours Music in Chicago. Now living in San Fran, Olivier manages the well respected Moulton Studios, Multitracked Recordings and now his very own pet project, Amenti Music.

With two deep and stomping tracks already in the record shops, Amenti is a testament to a deep and driving vibe that gets infectious after a few plays. The first release, ‘Chicken Tandoori EP’ by Belgian based house heads Swirl Peepz, is a classic example of marching beats, catchy rhythms and funky little basslines. All three tracks make it sure thing, suitable for lots of different sounds and atmospheres. The second release by Yann Fontaine, ‘My Love Will Surround’, only out since November, has been getting wide acclaim in the music press as well as being played on dancefloors from shore to shore. Not surprising as remixes by Lance De Sardi and The Kick Inside add some flair into the original’s soft melodies.

Other artists on the label include Alexander East, East Coast Boogiemen, The Lawnchair Generals, Natural Rhythm, Rick Preston, Spettro, J-Rod and Pat Nice. Upcoming releases also include remixes by Moulton Studio’s own Olivier and Chuck Diesel.

The next record to hit the streets is Alexander East’s ‘No More’, featuring a remix by Rick Preston and Seattle based Lawnchair Generals, who prove to make a wicked combination. They give us a driving vocal and warm keys, played over deep basslines, funky beats. Deep and driving, it’s somewhat reminiscent of the good old days. Alexander East, (who has also just seen the first release off his own imprint Planet East), keeps the original back to basics with a simpler more sweet sound that is just as effective. This record has already seen 5/5 from certain music magazines.

The future sounds good too, other forthcoming tracks due early in 2003 include, Swirl Peepz V East Coast Boogiemen, Spettro with remixes by Demarkus Lewis, Olivier and Chuck, and a Natural rhythm remix of the Moulton boys very own ‘Come 2 Me’. If you like deep, and if you like funk, you will love Amenti.
